About
The SA-GEO Knowledge Hub Training introduces the South Africa GEO Knowledge Hub (SA-GKH), the GEO Knowledge Hub (GKH) and the Marketplace, covering their purpose, value proposition and role in improving access to Earth observation and space-related knowledge. Throughout the day, participants explore the concepts of open knowledge, community contribution, collaboration and knowledge sharing, and practice creating and publishing Knowledge Packages.
About the event
Section titled “About the event”The training is the capacity-building day of the 2026 NEOSS Communities of Practice (CoP) Integrated Workshop and Capacity-Building Training, hosted by the National Earth Observations and Space Secretariat (NEOSS) together with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI).
The event runs over two days under the theme “Advancing South Africa’s Earth Observation and Space Ecosystem through Partnerships, Innovation, Knowledge Exchange, and Community Collaboration”, and marks the commencement of a new three-year leadership cycle for the South African Communities of Practice:
- Day 1 - 27 July 2026: the SA-GEO Knowledge Hub capacity-building training described on these pages.
- Day 2 - 28 July 2026: the CoP Integrated Workshop, covering strategic planning and alignment across the Communities of Practice.
Why we are here
Section titled “Why we are here”The GEO Knowledge Hub team is glad to have been invited to present the GEO Knowledge Hub and the National GEO Knowledge Hub to the South African community.
Our goal for the day is threefold: to show what the platform makes possible, to invite the community to contribute as knowledge providers, and, most importantly, to listen. The GEO Knowledge Hub is built for the communities that use it, and the feedback gathered during this training will directly inform the next steps of the tool and of the National GEO Knowledge Hub initiative.
