Description
This tool visualizes daily updated global data of COVID-19 cases and deaths at a glance, and several risk factors. To capture recent outbreaks, the map displays the national prevalence (case) and death rates for the previous seven days. By zooming in, users can access subnational data for selected countries (e.g., the US, Brazil, and many countries in Europe). Prevalence and mortality rates summarize the pandemic's impacts since the beginning of the pandemic. A pop-up trends graph shows daily and 7-day averages of cases and deaths for a range of select time scales, from 1-month to 6-month and beyond. To access the graph, which also displays demographic and urbanization estimates, click on a country. For custom areas, use the drawing tools on the right. User-friendly features let you fly to an area of interest, and easily scale up or down available administrative levels, with demarcations by color.
By facilitating complex but accessible visualizations of data, the Viewer enables a better understanding of the magnitude of potential COVID-19 impacts on populations of different sizes, age structures, and levels of urbanization. Data on age and sex are included because older populations and males have been shown to be disproportionately at risk of COVID-19 mortality, and urbanization is linked to higher transmission risk. Elevation data is potentially linked to the disease mortality, as is air quality as measured by Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD)—preliminary studies link particulate matter to increased COVID-19 mortality.
The information on COVID-19 cases is updated once per day; please refresh your browser for the latest data.
