Description
This Knowledge Resource corresponds to the session "Open Space-based Data and Data Cubes" during Open Knowledge Workshop 2023, Geneva, Switzerland.
Recent advancements of satellite data sharing and use cases were presented in this session.
The session divided into two parts:
- The first part focused on open space-based data with regional examples of how data sharing is organized to respond to evolving needs of users. Representatives from space agencies discussed their efforts to open their archives in support of the SDGs and other multilateral environmental agreements.
- The second part is emphasized the Data Cubes and Digital Earth programmes that have emerged in recent years in different continents, leveraging the Open Data Cube (ODC) and other open-source tools to organize, process and analyze large volumes of satellite imagery.
Objectives
The objectives of this session are to showcase advancements in sharing space-based data, demonstrate the impact of the various Data Cubes across the globe, and enhance knowledge sharing between these initiatives.
