Open Data and Open Knowledge Workshop (2025)

Description

Open Data and Open Knowledge (ODOK) 2025 took place on 5 May 2025 in Rome, Italy, as a Community event during the GEO Global Forum. Organised by the GEO Data and Knowledge Working Group, this third edition of ODOK continued to provide a vibrant space for collaboration, learning, and alignment across the GEO community around the principles of Open Data and Open Knowledge.

Building on the success of ODOK 2023 and ODOK 2024, the 2025 event brought together a wide range of stakeholders — from data providers and technical experts to national representatives and youth advocates - to explore how open practices can accelerate the transition from Earth observation to Earth intelligence, in direct alignment with the GEO Post-2025 Strategy.

ODOK 2025 featured four thematic sessions:

1. ODOK and Youth – showcasing how young professionals are contributing to user-driven, innovative Earth intelligence solutions and being empowered to shape the future.
2. In Situ Data in GEO – highlighting the foundational role of in situ data in integrated Earth observation systems and decision-making.
3. ODOK and National GEOs – presenting national-level implementations of open data and open knowledge, supporting inclusive and locally adapted solutions.
4. ODOK and New GEO Work Programme Activities – exploring how ODOK principles are embedded into emerging GEO initiatives that respond to user needs.

ODOK 2025 demonstrated the GEO community's continued commitment to openness, collaboration, and practical impact. By aligning discussions with the priorities outlined in the GEO Post-2025 Strategy, the event offered a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, share progress, and strengthen collective efforts toward more inclusive and user-driven approaches to Earth intelligence.
