Ocean productivity model

Description

The Carbon-based Production Model (CbPM) offers an alternative to traditional chlorophyll-based models for estimating phytoplankton biomass and productivity. Instead of chlorophyll concentration, CbPM uses remote sensing of particulate scattering coefficients to estimate phytoplankton carbon concentration. This approach, introduced in 2005, became possible due to discoveries linking carbon concentration to light scattering properties and advancements in spectral matching algorithms. By using carbon biomass and growth rates instead of chlorophyll metrics, CbPM provides a different perspective on net primary production.
