ClimHealth : Climate and environmental monitoring for health surveillance
- Creators
- Space for Climate Observatory (SCO)
Description
The ClimHealth (Climate and Environmental Monitoring for Early Health Warning) project aims to integrate climate and environmental information provided by satellites into health monitoring systems, to enable early warning and disease control, and to mitigate the social and economic costs associated with seasonal and environmental diseases.
Details
The project demonstrates the potential of satellite observations (Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2) to predict environmental risk factors for disease, providing decision-makers with valuable information for timely interventions. ClimHealth has developed two demonstrators of online early warning systems: LeptoYangon for leptospirosis in Myanmar, and ClimHealth, a generic tool applicable to all diseases influenced by the environment. The platform is open source and adaptable to any location, although the project has focused on Yangon (Myanmar) and Thailand.
