XtremQuality : Monitoring the water quality of small water reservoirs by remote sensing

Description

XTREM QUALITY focuses on monitoring the water quality of small reservoirs using remote sensing techniques. By developing indicators based on aggregated multi-source data, the project aims to improve our understanding and raise awareness of the impacts of climate change on these vital water bodies.

Details

In regions used to prolonged droughts, the creation of water reservoirs is a key local strategy for mitigating the effects of climate change by capturing runoff during wet periods for later use during dry seasons. However, the construction of such hydraulic structures is encountering growing societal resistance due to concerns about their environmental impact. XtremQuality meets this challenge by proposing innovative methodologies for monitoring and assessing the water quality of these reservoirs, thus contributing to the sustainable management of water resources.

Using the Sentinel-2 satellite constellation, XtremQuality employs innovative methodologies to monitor key water quality parameters and track the trajectory of these reservoirs. By integrating hydrological, climatic and socio-economic data, the project aims to develop spatially explicit indicators assessing water quality dynamics and vulnerability to extreme events. The project's innovative approach will enable stakeholders to make informed decisions about water resource management in the face of the challenges posed by climate change.
