Description
The OpHySE (Operational Hydrology from Space and modEls) project establishes a real-time monitoring platform, SAGUI, for tracking river conditions in French Guiana. With French Guiana's unique hydrological landscape and environmental challenges, including sensitive borders, transportation routes, and climate change impacts, the project aims to assist government and regional services in analyzing risks associated with water levels and planning interventions.
Details
Utilizing satellite data and hydrological modeling, the SAGUI platform provides real-time monitoring of flow rates, navigability, and climate trends for French Guiana's river basins. It offers indicators such as flow deviations, flow warning levels and rainfall intensity, crucial for decision-making in risk analysis and intervention planning. The project's methodology ensures robust and reproducible estimates, validated using in-situ data and assimilation schemes.
The project focuses on French Guiana's river basins, including the Maroni, Sinnamary, and Oyapock rivers, vital for transportation, energy, and ecosystem services. French Guiana's complex hydrological context and vulnerability to climate change make it an ideal territory for testing and implementing the monitoring platform.
Satellite data from missions such as Jason-3, Sentinel-3, and Sentinel-6, alongside in-situ data from measurement campaigns, contribute to the platform's data sources.
