EULIAA: European Lidar Array for Atmospheric Climate Monitoring

Description

The Horizon Europe project EULIAA focuses on the development of new lidar-based measurements of wind, temperature, and aerosol backscatter profiles in the atmosphere, covering altitudes from 3 to 50 km in an operational fashion. These atmospheric variables are retrieved with high vertical resolution and high accuracy (e.g., < 1 m/s at 20 km for wind).

Data collected using the EULIAA technology will help address key questions in atmospheric science and weather forecasting related to upper troposphere and stratospheric dynamics — areas identified by the World Meteorological Organization as a major need.

Campaigns are conducted at various locations and in diverse environments (from polar to subtropical) between October 2025 and December 2026. The data are made publicly available through this catalog in near-real-time, with options to browse by date and campaign location.

Quicklooks from the campaigns can be visualized in real time at the following page: https://euliaa-web.ch-meteoswiss-euliaa.f.ewcloud.host/

More information on the technology and the project can be found at https://euliaa.eu/ .
